Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

We are located in the beautiful Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia, PA. Our school is culturally, economically and racially diverse. At our school, we practice the 5 principles for conduct: be respectful, responsible, peaceful and careful, a problem-solver and learner. Through these 5 rules, we learn to be better citizens within our community.

We are gender neutral and culturally accepting of all races and backgrounds.

In my music classroom, as well, we encourage diversity and cultural sensitivity. Our music classroom is a safe space for all!

My Project

This year, we will be incorporating the latest craze in music ed, modern band in the classroom. Students will ALL take part in the creation, performance and production of covers and original music.

Students will play trombone, drum set, guitar, piano, percussion, lead and back up vocals, dance, record-engineer, and audio produce all within the confines of the general music classroom!

By funding my project, we will have all of the items we need to complete our production center in the classroom!

Working, as a group, on a music production has life long benefits to students: team building, raising self-esteem, problem solving, mindfulness, respect, learning to take critiques...the benefits are endless, and that doesn't even include MAKING AMAZING MUSIC!!!
