This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At our program, we learn a multitude of skills to prepare ourselves to be as independent as possible when we leave. The campus is a moderate to severe specialty site where all students and teachers know and accept one another. Our classroom is a second home for our students in a lot of ways.

Every student in our class is held to a high standard and always rises to the occasion.

We have seen students exceed expectations and absolutely blow everyone away with a new sense of confidence and respect for themselves. While here they make lifelong friends, achieve goals, work, and explore the community. I am always so proud of watching them grow and shine in their own ways. When they leave here we know that they are as prepared for the real world as they can be.

My Project

We are entering the third year of unprecedented times in the world. Education continues to be at the forefront of the conversation. For many students, this is their first full year back in the classroom since March 2020. Our students have been more impacted by the changes in our schools than any of us. It is our job as educators to fill the gaps, make the classroom a safe space, and bring the love of learning back to our students.

Last semester we explored the world of flexible seating, and we saw such a change in our students' learning, enjoyment, and focus.

However, the increased safety precautions have made sharing our flexible seating option difficult. We have found preferred seating options in our classroom and simply cannot safely share the preferred options throughout the day. Help us get everyone engaged and into a flex seating option that they prefer!
