My Students

I am a first grade DLI teacher. I have large classrooms of bright and motivated students. They are excited to learn and to grow. The academic needs in my classroom are diverse.

COVID -19 has impacted the learning of all students.

It has been especially challenging for younger students that had such a disruptive year last year. Many have unfinished learning. Those students whose parents were unable to offer consistent support had the hardest time. Young students need adult support to access online materials.

My Project

It is critical to have a solid phonics foundation if you want to become a fluent reader. COVID-19 disrupted the learning of so many young students and kept them from receiving the coherent instruction that was needed.

I want to solidify the foundation of my young readers by providing them with phonics materials that can be used in the classroom and at home.

The white boards and etch-a-sketch boards will allow active participation in my skills groups and in my whole group instruction. The take home books are critical for students to practice the skills at home. The phonics games peak interest as we practice specific skills.
