it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Students are being pushed to learn through computers and technology more than ever, some in the name of being eco-friendly and others as budget cuts squeeze schools tighter every year.
My school is on a budget crunch due to a rough fall semester that included a huge turnover, including administrators and teachers.
Nonetheless, our 8th-grade biology students were resilient to the changes. They learned Biology a year ahead of many Texas students and did so mostly through hands-on assignments, including reading passages and many practice problems.
The fall benchmark data shows learning at a high level. Students fall into four categories: Does Not Meet, Approaches Grade Level, Meet Grade Level, and Masters Grade Level.
Our 8th-grade Biology data shows:
3% DNM,
97% Approaches Grade Level,
65% Meets Grade Level, and
17% Masters Grade Level.
With paper being rationed every month or so, I am running low and unable to provide students with everyday materials in front of them. Technology is great, but can easily become a distraction.
My 2023-24 Biology goal is 90% Approaches, 60% Meets, and 30% Masters, anything above is beyond excellence.
