My students need a multimedia projector that I can use to bring educational experiences from the Internet and other sources to the classroom.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine seeing a rock video about the Declaration of Independence! An interactive map showing the changing boundaries of the United States! These are just some of the programs available on the Internet that would make history come alive for my students in this media-saturated environment.
I work in a high school in the Bronx with a variety of students ranging from Special Education, English Language Learners to Honor Students.
My classes are in 11th grade which is the U.S. History curriculum. We are a Title I school but our funding does not provide for individual teachers to get their hands on the latest technology for the classroom. Some rooms have SmartBoards (projectors with attached computers) but approximately 75% of the classrooms have only chalkboards or whiteboards. Some teachers have purchased LCD projectors which they attach to their own laptops so that they are able to simulate the SmartBoard function.
My students are often “caught up” by stories of the past, including the drama and motivations of historical figures, but how much MORE involved could they become if they are able to “see” the past with all the available media on the Internet?
My Project
Can you help me make history come alive by letting my students literally “see” the topics we are discussing? We need an LCD projector that I can attach to my laptop so the websites, videos, interactive maps, and photographs can be projected onto the whiteboard in front of the room.
I recently found a music video about the Declaration of Independence on the web that would help solidify the document itself that we analyze in class. By showing them the video, research has shown they will have a stronger imprint of the material. Any hook that will help them anchor the information in their memories will contribute to their understanding and enjoyment of history. There is a wealth of material that I hope to share with my students and I only need to “project” what I find to share it with them. Thank you very much for any help you can provide to us!
Students today are more media savvy than ever and "seeing" the Founding Fathers, a Civil War battle or film footage from the Dust Bowl can cement recollection.
Research has shown that lifelong exposure to multimedia experiences condition today's students to absorb and retain information through such avenues. Education today must utilize every available tool. I hope you can help me help my students!
