All of our team members are so grateful that you helped them have a wonderful season!\r\n\r\nThe underclassmen (grades 9-11) on our team just spent this Monday working on posters and speeches to give on senior night, when we honor all of the seniors that played this season that are about to graduate. Thanks to your support, we were able to secure the necessary equipment, including lacrosse sticks, balls, and mouthpieces, which has significantly enhanced our program.\r\n\r\nWith the funds raised, each player now has her own stick, allowing for a more personalized and effective training experience. This has not only improved their skills on the field but has also created a sense of ownership and pride in their sport. The girls are more engaged than ever, and it's inspiring to see their confidence grow with each practice.\r\n\r\nOur team has also expanded, welcoming new members who are eager to learn and compete. The availability of quality equipment has made it possible for us to provide a welcoming environment where every girl feels included and encouraged to participate.\r\n\r\nThe support you've shown us has not only equipped our athletes but has also helped build a stronger community within our team. The test has been modified to follow and implement the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). To mold to the new curriculum, my approach to science also had to change. In my unit anchoring phenomenon \"Why did whaling lead to a collapse in fish populations and contribute to climate change?\", students had to develop hypotheses and models to explain why is happening. Since more whales are being removed from the oceans, there is less nutrients from fecal matter causing algae growth, thus disrupting the food web in this ecosystem. In one of the tasks, students gathered quantitative data, using the spectrophotometer to measure light absorption, the amount of light absorbed by a sample at a specific wavelength at different concentrations of fertilizer. \r\n\r\nAt first, my students were a little hesitant to use such delicate device, and there was a bit of a learning curve. Although new technology and skills are difficult to develop at first, the students learned how to use it. It was exciting for them to engage in authentic science beyond the cookie-cutter labs. Most students will remember this experience when they go into higher education.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for my students in this unit is to construct an evidence-based explanation to the phenomenon using the collected data. This would not only support and prepare them for the new NGSS regents, but it builds the motivation students need to grow and increase their skill set. In the future I wish to integrate more technology equipment such as the spectrophotometer donated by you donors. Thank you for your continuous support at Donor's Choose and for making a different in our students' lives. It will not be possible without your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1726658531221,"projectUrl":"project/the-effect-of-fertilizers-on-algae-growt/8695527/","projectTitle":"The Effect of Fertilizers on Algae Growth- Spectrophotometer","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Nuñez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6155292_orig.png?crop=378,378,x16,y15&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1734801988484","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/nunez-science"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_472","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1086,"numTeachers":60,"percentFrplEligible":82,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":26,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":56,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"18.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.1,"schoolId":472,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Herbert H Lehman High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Herbert H Lehman High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/herbert-h-lehman-high-school/472"}
