This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are fortunate to have a variety of our instruments at our school including pianos, ukeleles and a number of different unpitched percussion. The one instrument that we don't have that would help us create some modern band music is the drumset!

Help provide our young musicians with an electronic drumset so that they can realize all of their modern band dreams!

We have been using resources that help students play contemporary music from a variety of genres (pop, rock, cumbia, rap, hip hop) using modern band instrumentation: vocals, bass, ukelele, piano and percussion. We've been piecing together drumset parts using our different unpitched percussion (think one person playing a tubano, one playing a cymbal, one playing a guiro, etc.). An electronic drumset would be a step towards bringing modern band music to life authentically, and also help our young percussionists develop the skills and coordination needed to play drumset.
