My Students

Could you imagine being a band student and not having your own instrument. To make matters worse, the school instrument you use has to be shared between 2 other students and you wouldn't get to practice everyday or play every song in the concert. This is the challenge facing my trombone players.

I teach K-8 music in a Detroit Michigan charter school in a high-need community.

We currently have 3 bands and 3 orchestras. We are a title one charter school in a high-need community. We are a moral focus school that is working very hard to develop our music program to its fullest potential. In Michigan, many music programs may be cut in the next year. Ours is totally safe and we need help supporting the music program's rapid growth. We need your help to do this.

My Project

Most of our student can not afford instruments and it is up to me to provide as much as I can for the students. They are very hard working and I hope to be able to meet every child's needs. They are doing a great job sharing instruments but they could do even better if they had their own. This would allow everyone to be their very best and it would allow everyone to play every song in each concert. It will allow for future students to participate in music for 4 years before entering high school. With their own instruments, our students can receive a higher level of education in music. This truly shapes the futures of many of my students because it allows for them to get into better high schools due to their music education. This is very important in our area because if creates college bound opportunities and opens the doors to many future experiences.

This project is very important because it will allow my trombone players to play every song in every concert and will allow them to practice everyday.
