My rockin' orchestra students need help to rock even harder! This ensemble has been together for two years and has already won an award for their ability. We are at a Title I charter school and the students in the ensemble range from ages 7 to thirteen. I teach K-4 general music, band and orchestra for grades five through eight. For the first time, instrumental music for grades 5 - 8 are included in the school day schedule. In the two previous years, we have rehearsed after school. We play music that rocks! We added percussion into the string ensemble and are a very cutting edge group. As a researcher in the area of the usage of electronics with strings, I incorporate electric violin with special effects into the classroom. (I use my own equipment for this). The students are a wonderful group and I desperately need to get equipment to help them become better players.
