My students need a collection of sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks to become the best geologists they can be!
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Oliver's classroom raised $440

My Students
Rocks are all around us. Yet many of the rocks we see are hard to classify. Our previous kits have become worn or lost and need replacing.
Our class is based in a neighborhood school in North Carolina.
We love science and making connections to the world around us. Reading can be difficult to some, so having these hands on experiences really helps us to make those important connections. We work in partner pairs and groups very well.
My Project
With your donation our students will be able to use the rocks and minerals to classify and categorize just like real geologists! We will test each mineral's physical properties to discover the luster, streak color, hardness, and magnetism. Our class will discuss and communicate the use of rocks and minerals and discuss the importance of each mineral to North Carolina. Finally we will compare all of the minerals to the hardness scale to make predictions about what mineral it might be.
Reading in a textbook is a wonderful way to learn about minerals and geology.
However, nothing can take the place of the real hands on experience. Without this tactile learning students may never find their true love for rocks and would never be able to "rock it out." Please consider donating to allow students this wonderful opportunity of looking at or earth's resources.
