Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a 3rd year special education teacher that teaches children with Autism. They respond well to sensory materials that they can manipulate with their hands and respond to positive interactions with their peers. A typical day in my classroom consists of having the students working in small groups

My students are kind, sweet, and very energetic and respond to positive reinforcement using multi sensory materials to help with behaviors and use during our centers and art and music time.

My school is a Title I school with approximately 1,100 students in PK-8th grade. I teach eight students with Autism in a self-contained classroom, grades 4-7. My students have a wide range of abilities academically, socially, and communicatively. I have three students who are nonverbal, communicating with pictures and/or speech generating devices. These materials will give my students the hands-on opportunities they need to acquire new skills. I know that with these materials my students will be able to See It, Hold It, and Learn It thanks to you!

My Project

My students will use the following materials: play dough, musical instruments and sensory balls to help build their sensory awareness skills and develop their needs to help self regulate throughout the day through stimulation. We need the materials to build our art and music center to make the children more aware of the artistic abilities and musical abilities.

Everyone benefits from a break at some point during their day.

My students need these breaks more frequently than the average student. Won't you please help complete our break area with art supplies that will give my students a spot to take a much needed break as they learn and appreciate the benefits of a much needed sensory and quiet break area?
