This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are in a self-contained classroom setting for moderate to severe disabilities. Our school serves students with a broad range of disabilities such as MD, EBD, and FMD. Our school provides successful learning experiences through a highly structured and supportive environment. We serve 94 students located in Jefferson County. We maintain an enrollment of approximately 100 students from ages 5 through 21.
I teach Middle School Science and Writing.
I teach special education Earth, Life and Physical Science in the middle school setting. Students are placed into special education for a variety of reasons. This population is often not given the proper tools to support science in the classroom.
My Project
The concept of learning about the rock cycle is sometimes difficult for students. With the Rock Tumbler, students will be able to observe science in action when rough stones are turned into smooth, polished gems. Students will be able to touch and observe all different types of rocks. Students will also be able to expand their knowledge of erosion and weathering of the earth over long periods of time. My students learn best with visual and hands-on experiences in Science. Your donation will ensure that my students will become lifelong science learners no matter what path their life takes. Science study produces thinkers and doers and I'd like to give my students the opportunity to explore this fascinating topic.
