Robots Take Over World: 5th Graders Our Only Hope!
My students need Sphero robots to work with and program in order to solve and navigate real-world challenges.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Landazuri's classroom raised $768

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"I pledge allegiance to myself and who I want to be..." Each day, we begin our class with a promise that helps my students focus on what they want to do and to learn today to make their future dreams a reality. It's a reminder that we start each day with a positive attitude. We know that there will be challenges, but we also know that we can handle them. We can't control our circumstances, but we do control how we respond to them.
"I can't wait to make a mistake!" From day one, we foster a safe community of learners in our room.
If a student doesn't feel comfortable, they won't try anything new. We are all learners, and support each other in taking risks and making mistakes, because we know that is where the real learning happens. Ours is a Title I school, serving a largely immigrant, Latino population, in a densely-populated urban city. Statistically destined to drop out before they complete high school, my students aspire to go beyond the stereotypes, and be the first college graduates in their family. There are no shortcuts!
My Project
Sphero robots take the abstract world of programming and make it concrete and tangible for students. They are an exciting and fun way for them to test and challenge themselves with their coding skills.
Through coding, my students realize that they are masters of their own destiny.
They have been dipping their feet into the coding universe and have been working through more and more rigorous tasks. Students work at different paces and levels and see each other as experts in different areas. They don't have to rely solely on the teacher, they can consult and collaborate with their peers.
As they dig deeper into coding and programming their Sphero robots, they become more familiar with Scratch programming language. They will apply all of this new knowledge to problem solve and work together as teams to complete STEM challenges using the Sphero MacroLab app.
Plotting out how to program a robot to travel through a maze motivates them to want to learn more skills to be able to do it all better, faster, and more efficiently.
I continue to marvel at the reluctant students who come out of their shells because the thrill of working with robots is irresistible.
Thank you for your consideration of my students and our STEM explorations!
