I have an amazing class of 28 fifth graders. Our local community is formed overwhelmingly by recent immigrants from Mexico and Central America. 99% of my students are Latino and must navigate a bi-cultural and bilingual world. 92% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch and they see the struggles of family members who often deal with long hours, low-paying jobs, and lack of higher education. Parents want better for their children. It is my pleasure to work with students who show so much interest and curiosity in reading, writing, technology, science, math, history, health, and the arts. Each day is a new chance to spark interest and learn something brand new. Will we delve deeper into the ingenuity of a classic novel? Create haiku poetry? Explore how the digestive system really works in fascinating detail? Compare unlike fractions? Marvel at the stars above? I can't wait to see what today holds!
