Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am a teacher in a urban low income school district in St. Louis county. It is a building or around 600-700 students grades six through eight. Most of our students come from home environments where education is not taken seriously. As a whole students are behind academically but are making great steps to be on grade level. Throughout the day I see between 60-100 students. The district is going through a financial standstill and funding for even the basics for our students is at a minimum.

My Project

This school year our 7th grade students will participate in a GTT Project Lead the Way Automation and Robotics Class.

A 3D printer and filament will help foster creativity and problem solving by allowing students to design custom pieces for their builds.

Students will be able to create custom size gears, standoffs, and other features to design both mechanical and motor driven builds. Students will be given real world scenarios and asked to design and build a machine to meet the needs of that scenario. With PLTW Automation and Robotics students build machines such as windmills, racecars, scale model elevators etc.

A 3D printer in our building will also allow our tech team to have exposure to equipment that most of our students would never dream about using.
