My Students
I teach STEAM in a rural district to over 500 K-5 students. This is the first year my students have had weekly STEAM lab, and they absolutely LOVE it! My students amaze me each week as they tackle real-world challenges in unique ways, often using the recycled items they brought to school to donate to our STEAM lab!
Most of my students do not have access to advanced technology at home, so the robotics work we do in our STEAM lab is incredibly interesting to them.
Many of my students brought their families to our STEAM nights this year simply to show them the technology we were able to borrow from Central Michigan University!
My Project
This year is our district's first year with a STEAM program. We have been fortunate to receive community donations and small grants to supply our STEAM lab with a variety of basic supplies, but our robotics equipment is very limited.
The Cubelets Robot blocks I am requesting will enable my students to work in groups of 4-5 to design and construct robots that will connect to their Lego creations.
Using these Lego-friendly robots in small groups will provide my students with numerous opportunities to experience the Engineering Design Process and become excited about robotics!
We currently have one small set of Cubelets in our STEAM lab, and my students are constantly asking when their group will have a chance to work with them. Some students even come to the lab during their recess time to test the robot blocks with their own Lego creations from home.
Adding these additional Cubelets to our STEAM lab will allow all of my students to experiment with robotics on a weekly basis!
