Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are from a vibrant region in the state of Florida that takes pride in its rich, Latino cultural heritage. Because of this, our population is made up of many English Language Learners. It is up to us to make sure they get the best education they deserve. My students are young, ambitious and curious. They work together as a team to achieve common goals. They are supportive of their classmates and celebrate the successes of their peers. They are a hardworking group of students who display excitement and enthusiasm toward learning.

Our philosophy is: If you can believe it you can achieve it!

Our school is a Title I Renaissance school. The majority of our students are from low-income families, which is reflected by our 91% free or reduced-price lunch status. Although my kids face socioeconomic challenges, they come to school every day willing to learn. My greatest satisfaction is when I see students achieve at their highest potential because we believed in them and now I am asking for you to believe in them by supporting this project.

My Project

My students have been exposed very little to coding. Now it's time for students to dive in with the Sphero and use the iPad to code it. Students will use code and commands to make the Sphero work. Students make a path for the Sphero to follow by downloading the app. There are different levels of access to the control of the Sphero.

Students can start with the simplest where they can draw a path for it with their finger, followed by one where some can drag, drop, and customize blocks that change location, locomotion, color, and more.

The use of the Sphero is ENDLESS. Helping fulfill this project will allow students to see firsthand what they can do with the skills (science, technology, math, and art) that they've acquired through science. No longer will they just use a program, they will create and operate them. Your donations will give them the tools to express themselves in creative and cool ways. They will learn how to take risks and fail in a fun and safe environment.
