We are rebuilding our school after it was lost when Hurricane Harvey swept away most of our town of Rockport, Texas. Most of our students lost their homes and belongings and many of their parents lost their jobs. We are working to build a better and brighter future for our children by providing them with a safe, engaging and enriched learning environment. We are a close school family because of the losses we have experienced and the strength we have found to rebuild our hometown.
My Project
Our school is a Title I Pre-Kindergarten campus with students from a variety of backgrounds including English Language Learners. We strive to provide each of our students with learning opportunities and experiences to help them become successful students and citizens. We want to reach beyond the basic technology lessons and introduce our students to 21st Century technology using Dot and Dash Robots. These are developmentally appropriate, fun and engaging. Children can compose music, learn how to control the robot using sequencing and event-based programming. They develop language and learn social and emotional skills while working together. To further engage our students, we would like to add a light table to our group center room with the materials which can specifically be used on the light table. A light table can be used to enhance science, math, and writing and math activities in exciting ways. Children are drawn to the soft glow of the table and need the hands-on learning with manipulatives this would provide.
