My Students

Our early childhood school is now in its 14th year serving the community. In our pre-K class, that means over 180 students have come and gone from this classroom. Along with that, many other students have called our room home for enrichment classes, after-school programs, and summer camp.

Families send their precious children to our class every day for us to help them take those first steps towards accomplishing great feats.

Our families are working-class parents who often work long hours to provide for their children.

There is nothing more rewarding for a teacher than connecting with the students and the families they serve on an emotional level. I am very fortunate to be able to teach in the very same community I grew up in.

I see much of my younger self in my students and see the similarities between my own parents and their parents. The stories, experiences, culture, food, and beliefs their families share have a lot in common with my own family.

My Project

Many kids are fascinated with robots. With so many kinds of media showing of their awesomeness, it's impossible not to be interested in robots, droids, and machines that serve a purpose. It's the purpose that gets lost in translation with kids.

There's a big interest in robots that have cool weapons, can turn into cars, and have things that go boom, but those are not practical bots.

I want my students to see the true purpose of robots. I have requested a Roomba robot vacuum cleaner as well as a iRobot mop to show our kids a real robot that serves a purpose. They will analyze the cleaning droid and make observations of its behavior. The Roomba will inspire our kids to look into and think about robots that help make life better.

Cleanliness in the class during a pandemic is very important. Our kids are learning how to care for the space where they learn, play, sleep, and eat. It is important for them to develop clean and healthy habits. The robots requested will help them see the true purpose of robots...which is to help make life easier so we can focus on other things that are important.
