"Ms. F....Ms.F it moves", those were the excited screams of my wonderful students as they worked on the claw of a robot. I work with wonderful students whose drive to learn and make sense of this world gives meaning to my life as a teacher. Our school is located in South Central, plagued by poverty and violence, while being only a little more than a mile away from USC. My students are eager to learn and create a path to engineering and technology as their careers.
Through the hands on experiences the students will learn more about simple machines and programming. They will learn to problem solve, to work in groups toward a common goal while having fun. The area where our school is located does not have robotics programs our students can take part in, similar robotics camps are out of the reach of most of our students. Allowing this program to exist gives an equal opportunity to quality programs to our students who are often at a disadvantage.
The students will be exposed to 21st century careers through the use of these robots and they will provide the students a basic knowledge that might lead to future engineers, architects and scientists.
