Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 2nd grade students attend an inner city school in Los Angeles. They are from various backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. Many of our students are English Language Learners (ELL) with roots in Latin America. The neighborhood is currently gentrifying, so we are developing a diverse population with many types of needs.

We are a STEM magnet that caters to unique and motivated students in Los Angeles.

They love to learn and constantly challenge me to meet their unique needs and ignite their passion for learning.

The school is 100 years old and we have multiple generations of students who have attended the school. Although the neighborhood is changing, many of the families remain the same.

My Project

My 2nd graders are learning to code through the use of robots. We have some robots and their accessories but we would like a complete classroom set. This will allow students more individualized time for coding.

Students will learn about Computer Science through coding of Dash and Dot robots.

The robots include many challenges where students must persevere and problem solve. Students work together to make their robots perform a task such as making a square, pushing objects, or making a basket. We will use the items requested for performing the tasks stated. The robots and accessories provide meaningful learning for students.
