I teach over 300 students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grades. My students are diverse and eager to learn. I get excited when my students take ownership in their learning. I can see the excitement in their eyes when they are exposed to a new skill and they have that "ah-ha!" moment.
My school is a "Turn-Around" school, which is a low performing school.
My students are working hard to show gains in reading and math and move up the ladder to becoming a positively performing school. Our students are motivated.
Our school is also a PBIS school. We encourage positive behavior. Opening the PBIS store has changed the atmosphere of our school. Our students are more mindful of positive behavior. They show kindness, food manners, respect for teachers and for their classmates. They respect the school rules and earn Greenwave Bucks. They purchase items from the store with their Greenwave Bucks. Seeing their faces after purchases their is priceless.
I teach in a school where all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My Project
Our students are asking..."Can we start a robotics program?" The Sphero robot will assist in peaking their interest in Robotics. I plan to allow my 3rd - 5th graders to learn about robotics using the Sphero. I will allow them time to read, comprehend, and program the Sphero. I am our Reading Intervention Teacher and this will be the perfect class to incorporate STEM, Robotics, and technology using reading comprehension. The science teacher and I will use the Sphero to get our students interested in robotics. Our plans are to start a robotics program in the spring. Hopefully, our 3rd and 4th graders will be ready for a Robotics Program next school year.
