Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a high poverty school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch! I have high expectations that they will grow and learn beyond what is expected. We are learning skills such as robotics, coding, and typing along with our curriculum. School is a safe and happy place for my students. Each day, they come into the classroom excited about the day and spending time exploring and learning together. For many of my students, being at school is the best part of their day.

My Project

The materials from this project will impact the students through coding and robotics just like Mrs. Bilello did with her project First Lego League. Both girls and boys will have opportunities to learn how to code, program, and collaboration within their robot group. The project will help expand their knowledge of coding and hopefully enhance their love for math and science through the lego robot. An after school code/robotic program will allows student who want to learn how to build, program, and work as a team to solve math and science task. It will also prepare them for future coding programming opportunities at their future middle and high school.

Learning how to code and program a robot through Lego Mindstorm will be rewarding for the students.

Just as I was inspired by Ms. Bilello's Project First Lego League, the students will be inspired by seeing the robot "come to life". We are learning to code through several other devices and would to be able to put everything we have learned into a robot. To keep their motivation alive, we need a Lego Mindstorm robot. These students are always ready and excited to learn about coding and build electric circuits. Putting them together through this robot will be thrilling to them and will allow them to be future engineers.
