My Students

My students are typical middle school kids. They have love of life and endless energy. They come from a variety of backgrounds but an overall impoverished community. They fully engage best in hands-on experiences that are high interest and connected to the real world.

These students are middle schoolers in a small rural school.

Many do not have opportunities afforded to students in a more urban area. There are so many untapped hidden talents in these students that are not brought out as much with a traditional curriculum. They are fun-loving and eager for experiences!

My Project

The world of robotics and computer programming can seem so exclusive. Many young people are intimidated by competitive robotics programs, but computer programming is quickly becoming a sought after skill in the workplace.

By learning the basics of coding and building their own robots, students immediately see the applications for computer and technology skills.

The smart car kits provide students both the support of step by step instruction and room for creativity and design. They will be able to manipulate basic machine components and electronics as well as see the result of learning programming skills. With these kits, they can go basic or get elaborate depending on their comfort level and experience but still be challenged and experience success.
