Help me give my students an enhanced experience with their Sphero iBots, with these chargingnstations for our tablets and maze accessories to practice driving our robots for competitions.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My classroom is a Sphero iBot classroom. Students learn to code and drive the Spheros. This program enriches the current curriculum and allows my students to transfer math and science concepts to robotics and engineering. I work on Spheros with my students and also have an iBot team that represents our school and participates in competitions. Our classroom is equipped with 12 Spheros iBots and and 15 tablets which are used to drive and program the Spheros.
However, our program is lacking some materials to help make the student experience more meaningful.
Due to a lack of outlets the students currently have to take turns charging the tablets. This leads to extended wait times and delays in our already packed instructional schedule. The charging ports will provide a compact space in which the students can store, charge amd access their tablets. This will allow all students to be able to begin working at the same time and minimize delays.
Our competitions consist of two components. The first is coding and executing the code with the Sphero. The second is driving the Spheros through an obstacle course. The students and I have made makeshift obstacles but as they are made of cardboard and paper are not sturdy enough to withstand the crashing of the Spheros. The kit I have requested will solve this problem. Additionally, it will allow the students to practice their driving in a scenario that better matches what they are expected to do during the completion.
This past school year my students placed third in their iBot completion. With the addition of these accessories and kit I hope to enhance the program. Making this a successful iBot Sphero year and supporting the students in their goal of winning first place. Thank you for your support.
