My students need programmable robots to build, pliers to build with, and safety glasses to protect eyes.

My Students
Bring interest and opportunity together. Our school has no computer science program, but through robotics we can build computer science skills through practical, hands on applications.
These students are from all high school grade levels with a keen interest in knowing more about technology than facebook and cellphones.
We are a small rural school with limited high tech opportunities for students - students that will face careers where technology is used daily. These young men and women want more than word processing. They want opportunities that will prepare them for engineering, computer science, and system design.
My Project
We will be using simulations to learn about programming, but the robots requested will let them move from simulation to practical applications, learning how to integrate autonomous controls with sensors, algorithms and programming to accomplish tasks in the real world. First in a laboratory environment to develop skills and later in competitions where those skills will be tested and refined.
These modestly priced robots will open doors to practical experience for these students and prepare them for post secondary pursuits, ultimately entering careers with developed problem solving skills using their ideas and technology.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
