Robotics in the Classroom

My students need LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 sets. We are going to learn how to create robots from the LEGO set, and then code them.

My Students

My students are curious and creative fifth graders. They are in a setting where I am prepping them for honors classes in junior high school. We are all very aware of the technology that is advancing all around us. My students become even more engaged in learning when technology is involved.

They live in the city and are always looking for ways to have a positive impact on themselves and their community.

Many of them volunteer their time before school and during lunch to help teachers in the building. Many of them also give up their recess time in order be involved in a club of their choice.

My Project

Engineering and problem solving are key components in a child's education. Linking technology across all subject areas helps students become more engaged in their learning. With WeDo 2.0, from LEGO Education, students will use building and coding to turn the LEGOs into robots that will then help solve a proposed issue.

With the help of LEGO Education, the students can use robotics to make prototypes that will solve real-world issues.

For example, the fifth grade students are learning about Natural Disasters. Students can then study building structure and design buildings that will withstand certain hurricanes. They can test their structures with a robotic machine created with the WeDo software along with the LEGO kit.

Students will work together to collaborate and problem solve. Activities such as these help with communication.
