My Project
I teach computer science for a small town in Montana. Budgets are tight and technology is hard to find. This robotics project will give my students the opportunity to have hands on STEAM experiences. We will be able to build problem-solving skills, creativity, collaborations and other skills that are essential for success. One example of what my students can do with these tools is to have my students build mazes and create algorithms to move a robot through the maze. We can also try to build cars or go bowling with our Spheros. The students could set up a miniature golf course and play Code Golf. We can have races and see which team can code the fastest. These little robots bring endless opportunities for students to use their imagination and develop computer science skills.
In general, students from rural communities do not have as many chances to learn about computer science.
My goal is to expose them to as many hands on computer science projects as possible. Hopefully this exposure will help prepare them for the future. At the very least, the problem-solving skills that they gain will propel them towards success in any field that they choose to pursue.
