This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend a Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade elementary school in New York. Our school is located in an area with a very high concentration of poverty. Most, if not all, of my students are eligible for free lunch.
My students are a lively and energetic group of first graders who have a lot to say but need increased opportunities to be engaged in learning activities where they can read, write and collaborate with their peers about topics and things that are important to them.
My Project
I am requesting STEM resources that will enable my students to work collaboratively on hands-on projects that promote critical thinking, problem-solving and provided increased opportunities to work collaboratively with their peers.
Albert Einstein said, "Play is the highest form of research." No doubt, it is!
The Chromebook, robots, LEGO construction kits, and painter's tape will enable my students to work in teams to create a strategy and learn how to program/code (and debug or fix the errors in) the codes they have written that control the movement of robots. As a team, they will use the painter's tape to create a maze and write a code for their robot to successfully navigate the maze and win "The "A-Maze-ing Race" with Wonder Dash Robots. This hands-on learning opportunity will enable and promote the use of critical thinking skills, knowledge of coding, and learning from trial and error to create a winning strategy! With your funding, my students may be inspired to become the critical thinkers and problem-solvers of tomorrow!
