My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district and a former student of this district, I understand that my students are faced with challenges both inside and outside of the classroom. Despite those many challenges, the mathematicians that I enlighten are motivated problem solvers that are curious about the world around us and are destined for success.

My students are amazing teenagers stuck somewhere between fabulous and cool.

They enjoy mathematics, and they are quickly learning the importance of teaching others how to fish instead of simply giving fish to their peers.

Just like most teenagers, my scholars love technology and socialization, and I want to use their interests to create a more efficient learning environment that fosters collaborative learning, open communication while developing their skills with technology and access to class materials that promote an inclusive class environment.

My Project

The LEGO SPIKE set included in this project will allow my students and me to explore the world of robotics in an engaging way. All students are familiar with LEGO, and this allows a segway to build on prior knowledge to obtain new skills in robotics and coding.

Technology is here to stay and as my students advance through their educational careers they deserve an opportunity to explore the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

The items included in this set are the beginning of new skills and learning opportunities within the classroom. It will be new for all of us, but by working together with my students we will conquer robotics. I encourage my scholars to persevere through challenging math tasks and this will give them a first-hand experience with us all being new to this information.
