My students live in a small, rural community and do not get exposed to the high tech fields that students in big cities get to experience. Students are interested and enthusiastic about technology and STEM opportunities. I strive to provide them with opportunities in the classroom to have these experiences.
Although their town may be small, my students have big dreams and aspirations to succeed in a technology rich world.
They work hard to learn while having fun! Creating projects that allow students to work together while solving problems has been very successful in the classroom. The students have used simple robots and are ready to move on to bigger and more complicated projects.
My Project
Learning by using hands-on, interactive projects has proven to ignite my students' interest in the classroom. The LEGO Mindstorms EV3 will give students the opportunity to learn the STEM skill of coding while also using their design skills to create an effective robot. By using Mindstorms, I am able to integrate many skills into the one project.
Integrating technology, coding, and the design process makes learning more memorable and exciting for the students.
The Mindstorms EV3 brings all these skills together. Not only are students using technology, the project will help the students with their soft skills such as collaboration, problem solving, and communication. Students don't realize the amount of collaboration they will need in order to make a successful robot. Today's employers are looking for employees who can be part of a team and know how to successfully work together. By collaborating on the Mindstorms, my students will be enhancing these soft skills.
