Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a community school that serves students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade. We are a neighborhood school with a population of approx. 800 students.
My students are inquisitive, hard working and wonderful!
They come from uniquely diverse backgrounds. Our families are working hard to make certain that their children have great opportunities to succeed in life and create bright futures.
Students attend my SAGE (Services for Advanced and Gifted Education) classes daily and participate in learning activities that will "stretch" their learning and help them practice their talents.
My Project
Our students are interested in learning to code using robots. Robot software is the set of coded commands or instructions that tell a mechanical device and electronic system, known together as a robot, what tasks to perform. Robot software is used to perform autonomous tasks.
We need to help stimulate our children's interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields.
In a nutshell, there are very few women in these industries, the bulk of which are engineering and computing.
To encourage more kids, not just girls, to take an interest in these fields, companies have been churning out cool and exciting toys that teach STEM skills. The idea: get kids hooked on their STEM toys.
We would like to purchase several robots for our classroom so that our students can learn to code creatively. These tools will also be available for our after school learning center which serves students who are working hard to improve their school performance.
