This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students have only one opportunity at my school to learn about engineering - and that's in the after-school Robotics Club. They design, build, and program robots to compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge. The initial grant that we received two years ago provided the team with a basic kit of parts, but we quickly learned that the functional robots we could build with the basic kits were not capable of competing with other, well-funded schools.

This robotic kit will help students design and build more sophisticated robots so they can hold their own against other teams.

Students love to participate in these competitions. They learn a lot about design and engineering in the process. I believe the experience would be much more memorable and enjoyable, though, if they had the resources to compete with the top schools, so they could challenge themselves to be among the best.
