I need this professional development to expand my understanding of robotics in order to teach my students about them.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Computer Science and STEM at a Title I middle school with 100% free breakfast and lunch. We are currently teaching fully online/remote due to COVID-19. For many of my students, school was a safe refuge and is now a source of stress. Despite their struggles and challenges, my students come to their Zoom classes with a smile and ready to learn. They show me every day that they are funny, kind, and hard working.
It is my goal to give them every opportunity and support possible to help them achieve their goals.
Sometimes this means adopting a classroom pet (or several), planting fruit trees, and inviting community members to visit. Other times it means following the stock market, playing with emerging technologies, and building portfolios. No matter what the interests of my students are, I want to be prepared to guide them to be their best with tools they can use for the rest of their lives.
My Project
Last winter and for the past three summers I have been privileged to participate in the Infosys Foundation USA Pathfinders Institute. The support of like-minded educators, hands-on learning, and computer science skills that I have been able to spread to my students has been phenomenal.
It is my wish to continue the learning and professional growth by attending the Junior Botball Challenge with KISS Institute practical Robotics.
This course will prepare me to use robotics to teach computational thinking concepts coupled with real-life applications of the engineering design process.
I am always seeking to broaden the opportunities presented to my students and to prepare them as much as I can for their futures. Experience with Botball and robotics is a skill that my students can carry with them for the rest of their lives.
