Have you ever had something stolen from you? My students have recently had one of their educational opportunities stolen from them- the opportunity to learn with technology. Over the weekend, someone broke into our classroom through the window and stole the iMac computers that our students use.
My students are high-poverty ESOL students, and many of their parents do not speak English.
My students all speak another language, and many of them do not have access to technology at home. At school, we had 3 iMac computers in our classroom that students could use as a learning center for English language learning activities. These language programs are especially important to our Newcomer ESOL students who speak no English. Their acquisition and mastery of English is important for them to be successful in all of their content areas.
My Project
I have requested two, all-in-one touchscreen computers. These computers will be used in our classroom for another 5-8 years, so I chose ones that I felt would last and function well for the language learning activities that we do. These computers will be easy for students to use (many of whom have never seen a computer before!) and will help them soar in their English acquisition.
What kind of a person would rob students of their educational opportunities?
Please help me show the students that we will not let bad people and bad circumstances stand in the way of providing them the quality education they deserve. Help my students by helping us replace what was stolen so that my students can continue their educational journey!
