This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

During the 2021-2022 school year I will make the exciting leap from being a 5th grade teacher to being a kindergarten teacher! This year will be the first time any of my brand new kindergarten students have ever stepped foot inside of a classroom, as all preschool classrooms were closed during the pandemic.

One of my favorite quotes comes from Nelson Mandela, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." I firmly believe that supplying children with the highest quality education possible is one of the most meaningful ways of changing lives.

We are designated as a Title I school - which means that the majority of our students hail from a low socioeconomic background. It is my intent and my goal as an educator to ensure that my students receive the same access to opportunities, materials, and education as their peers who attend more affluent schools.

My Project

This project is asking for a class set of yoga mats. These adorable and child-friendly yoga mats will help students to understand the concept of personal space, and will give each student a safe place in which they can dance, exercise, and destress with yoga moves.

We use songs and dance to learn many important concepts in kindergarten, including counting, learning letters, sounds, and words.

Having a designated space to do this in will be very beneficial and will help our students learn personal space boundaries.

Every afternoon we calm our bodies and mind through yoga before we go home. Normally we do this practice on the carpet, but having yoga mats will make this more comfortable and enjoyable.
