My students need to have the experience of seeing animals that they have been studying about in school.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kids are special! They live in a high poverty city in California. Many families share homes and because of safety issues, there is not a lot of opportunity to go outside and play. They attend a Title One school where they have a free and reduced lunch and breakfast program that above 90 % of the students use. I teach kindergarten in this school. The children are sweet, smart and enthusiastic. They love to come to school and learn!
My Project
We will be reading and studying about different kinds of animals throughout the Kindergarten year. They will now build realistic schema about many of those animals. The facts that they have learned will be right before their eyes.
I cannot wait to see their eyes when they meet these animals for the first time!
Each child will be determined to find out as much as they can about their favorite animal. They will connect the value of reading to these real life animals. And they will read other non-fiction materials to find out more about other areas that interest them.
