As a library media specialist, I am blessed with a job that allows me to see every single student within our middle school multiple times a week. The students at our school are eager to learn but many are placed in circumstances that create barriers for those amazing learning experience that we, as educators, want them to have. 70% of the students in our school qualify for either the free or reduced lunch program based on family income.
I have teamed up with our music director, and our reading teacher to give all of our students a theatrical experience that they will never forget.
Through after-school drama club, we will be teaching kids of all walks of life theatrical skills, music, art via set design, technology via our sound and lights crew, even advertising as we prepare for the event. All students are welcome and everyone who wants to participate is given a job that they will both love and learn from.
My Project
In an effort to instill a love of the arts, we have developed an after-school drama club where students are learning theater, music, and even art through set production. We are finding ways to include students from all walks of life and all interest levels through tech crews, stagehands, principle characters, and set designers.
This project is to help fund our costumes from the Wizard of Oz so that our young actors can put their best foot forward.
We have raised the money for the rights to the show, scripts, and music but we are currently striving to fund out costumes and our sets. This project will specifically focus on some of our larger costume needs.
