My students need a rug for a comfy place to read, listen to stories, problem solve and socialize.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our classroom is full of brilliant thinkers. We are kind to one another, we work hard every day, and we never stop asking questions. Most students in our classroom are bilingual, and many have only been fluent English speakers for a few years.
We have so much to offer the world, and we exuberantly contribute our ideas!
We are readers and writers, gardeners, athletes, Pokemon trainers, historians, mathematicians, thespians, free thinkers, recyclers, musicians, caregivers, and dance machines. We know that school feels the best when we work hard and laugh easy. Life is good in second grade!
My Project
We spend most of our school day in our room. It's where we dig into our main subjects (reading, writing, math, social/emotional wellbeing, social studies, and science) and generally serves as our home at school. We are proud of our classroom and work hard to keep it looking fly.
Right now we have a gnarly, old carpet that is full of stains and duct tape residue; it fits about half our class and requires an atrocious amount of criss-cross-apple-saucing.
It has spent the last few years rolled up in a storage closet, and by all accounts seems ready for carpet heaven.
A new rug will really change the set-up of our classroom, and make it much simpler for us to do work somewhere other than our desks. This new rug will create a more pleasant and productive learning environment, and make floor time much cozier. In an elementary school classroom, the carpet is everybody's meeting place. We are psyched to have somewhere that helps each of us feel even more eager to learn and work together!
