My Students
As a teacher in a comprehensive high school, resources are quite limited. Most students come from low-income households and have parents who do not speak English. I also teach in a school district that continuously has its funding cut for various reasons. My students are faced with several challenges both in and outside of the classroom.
Despite the many challenges they face, my students are eager to learn more about themselves and the many cultures that walk the halls of our school.
The diversity of my school spans several continents, cultures, and classes. My students seek opportunities to share and experience each other in ways that are not permitted during instructional time.
These are students that have a different language, clothes, food, music, etc and wish to express them to others, especially the students they spend several hours a day with. And being in an environment where all are excepted brings about a better learning climate for all.
My Project
Hello, I pray that you all are safe and well when you read this and how it will make a difference in my students learning and their lives. My students are really struggling academically and emotionally due to this pandemic, but your donations can help ease that pain. Specifically, the menstruation items and PPE items will make it easier for them to have one less thing to be concerned with while trying to learn in person and virtually.
The donation they will be most appreciative of is the mask and the sanitizing items.
Some of the statements were: “I can feel safer while learning”. “Someone really cares about our learning in a safe place.” and the one that most touched me was - “Ms. Blount Thanks for asking for help for us to be safe while you teach us. We know the school does not have the funds right now.”
Our next steps are to use the items wisely and sparingly so that they last at least this school year. We will also share this with others so that they can add to the safety of their classroom. This generous assistance will give my students and me a sense of hope during this most tumultuous time in their young lives and for that, we again offer our sincere THANKS TO YOU ALL!!!
