Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic kids who are eager to learn. Over 90% of our students come from low-income households. A large percentage of our families meet the definition of homeless, living in garages or multiple families in one residence. My kids' parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. And yet, our children still want to create, read, write, and learn!
My students worry about coming to school and staying safe; and yet, they still come to school to explore, learn and grow.
I am working to meet my students' needs emotionally, as well as academically, during this pandemic. I want them to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read, learn to use technology, and at the same time, learn language arts, math, science, and social studies.
My Project
Children are sometimes afraid to try new things because they don't want to make mistakes. They are sometimes scared to take chances. When you can "erase" a mistake without a trace, it is reassuring and exciting. You can fix anything. You gain confidence and begin to enjoy more activities.
Dry-erase chalk markers and erasers provide my students with the ability to take risks and try to write more without fear.
They will take chances and write more letters and spell words, building up to sentences, paragraphs and stories! I am excited to provide my students with these dry-erase chalk markers and erasers. And the erasers are magnetic, so the will stick to their boards when they are set aside so that they can be found immediately. These markers are bold colors and write beautifully on our white boards and our plexiglass shields that we have been using for protection and for writing.
We will also be able to use these markers to draw pictures for our stories and we'll use them for math counting and writing numbers. The uses are endless.
