My students need risers to perform on stage. Our stage is in the lunchroom and, when the students perform, they have to stand on the steps of the stage. Risers would allow for more space.

My Students
I teach the entire school, grades Pre-K through 5th.
Our students live in a low socio-economic neighborhood, but have risen above their circumstances.
Our principal came into the school twelve years ago when it was one of the lowest performing schools in the district, and turned it around to be one of the highest performing schools in the district.
Our students have won awards in academics, art, music, chess and other disciplines. They participate in, and/or compete in the science fair, spelling bee, chess tournaments, All City Honor Choir, Music Memory Competition, etc. They are amazing!
My Project
Our students want to dance, sing and play instruments for their parents when they perform. Unfortunately our resources are limited and our space is small. Our students perform on the steps of the stage because that is the only way to perform in tiered rows. If students dance in groups, they are blocked by the singers on the steps. If they play instruments on the floor, they are crowded by audience members who try to get as close as they can with cell phones in their faces. I stand in the audience to conduct and audience members often block the students from being able to see me, and block other parents from taking pictures. With risers, we could have the students tiered at the back of the stage, with dancers and instrumentalists in front, and I could conduct from the stage. Our students would learn how a real concert is to be performed, and learn how to conduct themselves at a public venue. All students Pre-K through 5th grade would benefit greatly from this. Risers are expensive so I will build this one piece at a time.
