Rising to the Occasion

My students need risers! We are an active music department and have many rehearsals and concerts throughout the year and depend on risers for classroom management and showcasing our wonderful students!

My Students

There is no budget for our middle school music department, but that hasn't stopped us yet! We love to think big and our goal is to reach and inspire students through performance, community and school service projects, and creating points of pride within our music classes and through our Tri-M Music Honor Society.

We have great cultural diversity throughout our student body, consisting of about 900 kids from all over the world!

With over 85% of our students being eligible for free or reduced price lunch, there is no budget for the music department! Between two music teachers we have a band, jazz band, a chorus, solo and ensemble groups, composition classes and ukulele/general music classes. Every day we see around 250 to 300 students creating and performing. We're proud to say that they are confident, independent and excited to make music together! These students are college-bound and amaze me every day with how hard working and talented they are! They dive right into every challenge presented to them with determination and a smile on their face - a constant inspiration!

My Project

Our very active music department needs new choral risers to help showcase our amazing students and to help manage great rehearsal behaviors. Risers are used for our thriving chorus, jazz band and theater program as well as multiple small ensemble performances throughout every year.

We are a large district with very few risers to share between many schools.

The addition of two more sets of risers would not only impact over 250 of our students at our school, but countless others as that would free up the risers that travel between schools.

Our chorus teacher gives up her free time to teach 100+ students 2X a week for 20 minutes and is still very successful in helping them be excited to create music. In middle school, any disruptions can throw a lesson off - how about 45 kids who no longer have a place to stand for 2 weeks while our risers get lent out to another school for their performance? Every single minute counts in the 20 minutes Ms. Cook has to teach her chorus and a set of risers that will stay at our school forever is a luxury we will never be able to afford without the help of DonorsChoose.org and the generosity of our donors.
