Picture 20 people crowded around a desk looking at a 19" screen. Welcome to the current technology in my class. I wish I was able to provide my students with the liberties offered by having a projector in the room. Right now my students are forced to crowd around my desk top. It is not working!
My students are high school age middle school students, who have been retained at least two times in their academic careers.
They are bright students but unfortunately, at some point they have been misunderstood and disengaged. My school is an alternative school, that allows them to accelerate two grade levels in one year. Our program is rigorous but because of the economic state of the district we do not have some of the materials we need to awaken the scholar that I believe is hidden in each of them. Once my students are engaged they are unstoppable.
My Project
If I were able to access video clips, pictures, quotes, and display portions of my lessons on a screen so all my students can see it I would surely be able to engage them and keep them engaged. I am hoping to receive a multimedia projector with built in sound and powerful display capabilities. My students and I are tired of charts, transparencies, and crowding around my desk. We are ready to upgrade to Prezi presentations (http://prezi.com/), multimedia analysis, and interactive PowerPoint charts and presentations!
My students will use this projector in some form every day in the classroom.
It will help me bring lessons to life. Instead of modeling a chart on an overhead transparency, they will have animated interactive examples with multimedia plugins to draw them in. Additionally, students will be able to create digital presentations of their own and teach others in the classroom! The literature we are studying is classic, but we're looking to learn it with the latest technology!
