My Students
My students are from Brownsville, Brooklyn. They all qualify for free or reduced price lunch. Due to inadequate or no early childhood experiences, they start kindergarten with a deficit in critical skills. Many are not read to regularly or at all. Many do not have the opportunity to work on critical literacy skills to be strong readers.
My Project
Providing me with the curriculum book and access to the accompanying videos will low me to use the most up-to-date strategies and techniques in providing whole group and small group instruction in the areas of phonological awareness based on the science of reading. This will allow me to take the theory that I am learning and put it into practice in a clear, concise and consistent way for all of my students. It will also allow me to provide intervention or identify possible needs for intervention in reading. Thank you.
