My Students

My students are a group of unique and energetic special education students from the San Francisco Bay Area. They come to us with a variety of disabilities including Autism, Speech and Language Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities, Specific Learning Disabilities, and Physical and Emotional Disabilities. Our students need a lot of extra materials in order to be successful and access curriculum. Our school is a Title One school (having high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families) and there are a lot of resources we need to get to help ensure that all of our children meet challenging state academic standards. Our students enjoy anything that is colorful, visual, and hands on. Once our students are engaged and properly supported, they love learning and are so excited every day to be at school!

My Project

This project will help support my students learning needs. My students benefit from taking breaks when feeling overwhelmed, and having reward systems set up. In addition, supplies beautify our classroom to help make a welcoming learning environment. Being able to decorate our classroom with posters that relate to our subject matter helps keep students engaged throughout the day.

Supplying the students with games and activities that they can work towards helps incentivize them to push through difficult tasks.

Staying on task can be difficult for a lot of our students, so giving them a reminder about what it is that they are working towards will help increase their drive to learn.
