Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I currently teach life skills in a middle school self-contained setting classroom. Our school is in a low-income area. Many of the students do not have the resources to help them with their needs. There are students in my class who are living day to day not knowing where they will lay their head down at night. Some parents do not get assistance with food. In the classroom, my goal is to make the students feel as comfortable as they can while they are in school. There are many times that teachers must come out of their pocket to purchase items such as food and clothing for students. My goal for this project is to be able to provide snack to students while at school, but also continue to make food bags for students to take home with them on the weekends until they return on Monday. My students are very special to me. I will not have students be hungry in my classroom. The lunches are free at the school, however, middle schoolers are growing children and need extra nutrition to last them throughout the day.
