My students need exemplar informational text, stories, and poetry common core book sets to help them prepare to think outside the box. They are below level students that need this extra support.

My Students

My students need to be able to learn to think outside the box. These are children that are below grade level in reading. They need to learn how to find information in a story. The best way for them to do that is to start finding a love for reading.

My students are hard working low level readers.

They are at a disadvantage because they come from a poverty area. Our school gives every student free breakfast and lunch because we are almost 100% free and reduced lunch. We work hard to give our students all they need to succeed in their education will do what ever it takes to help our kids feel encouraged and accomplished.

My Project

They will use the exemplar text and poetry in a small group center setting. We will read the stories and find information using the text to support our answers. I want them to use the outside the box thinking to answer open-ended questions. We will look at the different ways a story can be read and the questions can be answered for them to really apply themselves.

The students will really get a feel for the way common core is changing reading.

We are just starting common core here in Alaska and I want my students to get started on the way to look differently at reading and the text.
