Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every day as I plan to teach my students I strive to see how engaged I can get the students. My students are eager to learn and I want to do everything I can to help ensure they learn as much as they possibly can while they are with me. Learning in context not only provides deeper, more meaningful experiences, but it also helps motivate students to do their best learning. It also helps them focus on the learning at hand and provides a way for them to forget about the problems going on outside of school.

My Project

Funding this project would allow me to attend two days of amazing professional development. Many students go through the school day hoping to be able to be engaged in learning and do some activities to help them learn. While I do provide some activities for my students, it is not even close to the level I want to be at with my students. In order for my students to arrive at school with the excitement, I would like to see, I need to have them actively engaged in activities they are interested in. I need for them to learn what they need to learn without realizing they are being challenged and learning.

“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” is an old, but a familiar quote from Benjamin Franklin.

Despite the age of the expression, it is still very popular today. When students are engaged and have teachers that promote creativity, innovation, and rigor, they are much more likely to develop a passion for learning and become lifelong learners.

At the training, I will be able to observe teachers who provide powerfully engaging lessons for their students and experience the same training they went through which enabled them to create their lessons.
