Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergartners need to learn about financial literacy. They learn about producers and consumers as they learn about needs and wants as well as living and nonliving things.
My students come into school every day eager to learn something new.
We are one of five kindergarten classrooms in a Title I school with close to 600 students. I currently have 19 students. The majority of my students are English Language Learners who need additional materials to support learning new vocabulary and skills simultaneously. Most of my students lack resources at home to support their academic learning goals.
Many people have said that our school is a hidden treasure and for that reason it can be difficult to locate. Because we are tucked into a small neighborhood, we do not receive as much community support to fund classroom needs. Many of our teachers purchase materials independently or seek funding for materials.
My Project
The students are learning about who and what make goods that are later sold and what are needs and wants. The requested leveled readers will provide the students with the needed background information that they currently lack in these areas. They need this background information and these learning experiences to understand what it means to be a producer and what it means to be a consumer before we move into learning about producers and consumers.
Financial literacy is often thought to be for older students only.
We need to prepare all of our children for a future filled with making wise financial decisions and this starts in my classroom. Thank you for taking the time to review my project to support my students' learning goals.
